Alvaro Palacios
Álvaro Palacios grew up in Alfaro in the Rioja region at the family-owned Palacios Remondo winery. After studying oenology in Bordeaux and completing various internships, including at Chateau Petrus, he did not immediately return to his parents' winery in 1989, but founded his own in the Priorat region with the purchase of the Finca Dofi vineyard. In 1993, L'Ermita was added, which became the first Spanish wine in the “Gran Vinya Classificada” classification, i.e. Grand Cru, with the 2017 vintage. Les Aubaguetes has also recently been included in this category.
2022 was a hot and dry vintage. In Priorat, there were even restrictions on the use of water in agriculture. Like 2017, the harvest started relatively early. However, greater focus in the vineyard, biodynamic working methods and restrained use of wood in the cellar meant that the wines retained an astonishing freshness.
Although Álvaro Palacios has already achieved so much, he is not resting on his laurels, but is constantly evolving. This is one of the reasons for the consistently high quality that is bottled year in, year out!
