(Fronsac; 100% Merlot; a final yield of 25 hl/ha; 14% alcohol; certified organic). Vivid and vibrant, bright and fresh, with that lovely Fronsac lift and energy, this is distinctly less oaky than once it was and all the more beautiful in my view for that. A very special wine in this vintage that I taste with a tear in my eye. The person whose signature the label still sports would have been thrilled by its quality.

Château Fontenil has long been known for its structure and a certain chewiness, with tannins that are tight and gripping. In the 2025 vintage, however, while retaining its structural depth, it clearly shows an added sense of suppleness. The fruit remains centered on ripe dark berries, carrying a sweet, even slightly caramel-toned nuance, with a fresh and appealing character. On the palate, the tension of the structure is evident, yet when I pay close attention to each tannin, they reveal a finely polished, powdery texture. This is undoubtedly one of the more striking vintages in recent years.
91-93/100 Alexandre Ma
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 Fontenil is a little closed to start, offering notes of cedar chest and tar before opening out to a core of plum preserves, Indian spices, and wild sage, plus a fragrant touch of lavender. The big, concentrated, full-bodied palate is jam-packed with baked black fruits and exotic spice layers, supported by velvety tannins and a lively line, finishing long and fragrant.
93-95/100 Lisa Perrotti-Brown
Intense plum colour, and this is an estate that knows how to find ripeness. Skilful extraction giving a firm tannic architecture, with lots of black cherry and cassis fruits. Intense, charged, espresso and cocoa, with estate signature. Harvest September 13 to 19. 25 hl/ha. 30% new oak, 40th vintage of the estate, and the last one of Michel Rolland.
