A big step up in quality from the already impressive Aria, with a lot more finesse and elegance. Here we have Bordelais graphite and cedar and Tuscan lavender and rosemary gentle enrobing the plump, plush red and darker berry fruits. The Syrah brings additional concentration and a hint of game and charcuterie, but it’s the more ethereal and aerial notes – from the Cabernet Franc above all – that make this special. Juicy, fresh, bright and succulent, yet dense, intense and compact with that perfectly ripe dark berry fruit strapped very close to the spine. There’s a natural sweetness to the midpalate that indicates the heat and sunshine of the summer, but also a lovely more subtle delicacy that is reassuringly classy and augurs a long and accomplished future. 97.
