2022 Eneo IGT Toscana
Aromas of blackberries, spices, sage, thyme and dark earth come through clearly. It’s medium-bodied with fine, velvety tannins that run the length of the wine and continue in a sure and straight way. Refined and very typical for a high-quality red from the Tuscan coast. 65% sangiovese, 30% cabernet sauvignon and 5% malvasia nera. Needs a year or two to open, but it’s already beautiful.

The 2022 Montepeloso "Eneo" is one of my favorite expression of Tuscany’s supertuscan grown on the coastline, this producer is becoming of the most exciting project in the whole region. Montepeloso, primarily based in Suvereto, a hidden gem of the Tuscan coast close to Bolgheri, is known for its low-intervention, terroir-driven approach, generating wines of electricity, finesse, and character. This Super Tuscan mixture—composed of 65% Sangiovese, 25 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Malvasia Nera, —grants a deep nose of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, and plums, accented by notes of Mediterranean herbs, tobacco, and crushed rocks. On the palate, it’s full-bodied yet subtle, with velvety tannins and a vibrant acidity that offers freshness to the wine. Flavors of dark fruit, cocoa, and unusual spices unfold gracefully. The estate’s proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea imparts a saline touch and freshness, stopping the wine from ever feeling overripe or heavy. The 2022 Montepeloso "Eneo" is a need to-try. For the price this is a true gem.
