(Margaux; 65% Cabernet Sauvignon; 33% Merlot; 1.5% Petit Verdot; 0.5% Cabernet Franc; a final yield of 29 hl/ha; 13.5% alcohol; tasted at the UGCB press tasting at the Cité du Vin and then at Château Canon with Nicolas Audebert). Divine violet, rose petal and peony floral fireworks accompany the shimmeringly beautiful dark berry and, predominently, cherry fruits. This is a little closed perhaps at first, even more so when tasted at the UGCB press tasting but much less so when re-tasted a third time at Cannon where it just sings! This exudes class and finesse with the most gorgeously soft, svelte, cashmere mouthfeel. It's quietly understated, though much more exuberant 10 days later, incredibly harmonious, and is a star of the appellation, even if it now faces very stiff competition from others.

Having just experienced the brilliance of the second wine, I could hardly wait to encounter Château Rauzan-Ségla itself. And it responded just as I wished, with a beauty so dazzling it felt almost like falling in love. Unlike the restrained, half-veiled expression of previous vintages, Rauzan-Ségla 2025 reveals itself without hesitation. Before I even reach the glass, a dew-kissed violet rises from the glass, its sudden fragrance catching me completely off guard. What follows is a rush of blackcurrant, black goji berry, and bayberry, surging like a tide, scattering fresh, sweet juice across the senses. Thought fades, and I surrender completely. Most remarkable of all is its signature supple texture. That signature softness unfolds like layers of peony petals, gently enveloping every sensation, while deep in the finish, it quietly leaves behind a love letter sealed in a velvet envelope, soft, intimate and impossible to resist.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 Rauzan-Ségla needs a little shaking to wake up perfumed notes of lavender and lilacs, leading to a core of fresh black currants, wild blueberries, and black raspberries, with touches of aniseed and fragrant soil. The medium-bodied palate delivers a fine-grained texture and lovely freshness to support the nuanced black and blue fruit layers, finishing on a lingering mineral note. The blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 1.5% Cabernet Franc, and 0.5% Petit Verdot. It has a pH of 3.67 and the alcohol is 13.5%. Yields were 29 hl/ha. The wine is aging for 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% new.

Inky colour, this is sleek, powerful, a ton of energy and uplift, very classy, bouncy, feel that you are very much in the heart of rose bud and iris flowers, DNA of the Margaux appellation, liquorice and black chocolate, really a skilfully constructed wine that will power through the years. Nicolas Audebert. Harvest September 2 to 24, 29hl/ha yield, 3.67ph.
