(Saint-Émilion; 38% Merlot; 30% Cabernet Franc; 32% Cabernet Sauvignon; a final yield of 25 hl/ha; pH 3.64; 13% alcohol; 90% grand vin, with very little lost of the sorting table; tasted at the property with Blandine de Brier Manoncourt). There was just a little green harvesting to reduce the size of the crop to allow perfect maturation of the fruit. This is profound, deep, lifted, dense, compact, rich and, above all, cool at the beautifully formed spherical core. Black cherry, blueberry and a little cassis and blackberry. I love the leather, cedar and graphite, all remarkably present already at this nascent stage. Lily of the valley. Iris. Blood orange. Walnut shell (from the pips, the ripest ever achieved here despite the early picking dates). There's just a little black pepper and a lovely natural mineral salinity. This takes a beautiful shape in the mouth, not especially ample, but what is not there in amplitude is more than compensated for in depth. This is incredibly layered, but unlike the other grands vins of the appellation, the layers are not of cashmere or velvet but rather of silk, interspersed by the penetration of the ultra-fined and refined tannins. It's like a cascade of layers, descending like a flowing staircase into the dark core below. Figeac is staggeringly beautiful for a wine so considerable in its structure. This is, for me, the most accessible truly great vintage of Figeac. The conveyance of the flavours from the grapes themselves into the final wine is very direct. If there are comparisons to be drawn, they are with the 2016 and perhaps the 2010 at this stage.

As crisp fruit strikes the palate like bright, ringing notes, and as pure aromas draw out a bridge of rainbow, the spirit of Château Figeac begins to reveal itself. The 2025 blend remains classically balanced at 38% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, yet its spirit leans toward the clarity and poise of nearly 50% Cabernet Franc. A wisp of wisteria stirs from the depths of gravel, slowly rising at the feet, circling the body as it ascends, before transforming into the delicate sweetness of bayberry and sour jujube, drifting softly across the palate. Even more satisfying is the texture: tannins as fine as face powder, paired with a subtle trace of salinity, weave the wine into a moving tableau, layered yet composed, calm yet gently in motion. I imagine that even an immortal passing by would be tempted to descend and taste it for themselves.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2025 Figeac prances out of the glass with a flamboyant perfume of candied violets, black raspberries, star anise, dark chocolate, and mossy bark, opening out to a profound core of mulberries, cassis, and juicy blueberries. The medium-bodied palate shimmers with a mesmerizing array of perfumed black and blue fruit, framed by very firm, fine-grained tannins and amazing tension, finishing very long with a firework display of mineral and floral sparks. The blend is 38% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 32% Cabernet Sauvignon. The yield is 25 hl/ha. The alcohol level is 13% with a pH of 3.64.

Inky colour with violet reflections, swirling cooca bean and espresso, blood orange, baked plum, blueberry, blackberries, chalky tannins, palma violets, peony, iris flowers, slate-strewn tannic architecture, intense and concentrated, great stuff with clear ageing potential. Harvest September 1 to 19, 3.64 pH, 25hl/ha yield, 3.64ph. Frederic Faye director. No deleafing during the growing season, and reduced canopy height, and a cool vinifcation approach. 90% Grand Vin, 10% Petit Figeac.
