(Pomerol; 80% Merlot; 20% Cabernet Franc; a final yield of 34 hl/ha; 14% alcohol; tasted twice, the second time at the UGCB tasting at the Cité du Vin). Divine aromatically, as I was somehow expecting it to be (it's often dangerous to have presuppositions, but try as one might it's difficult to avoid them too!). This is oh so very Clinet, with that utterly beautiful intense violet and iris florality, a touch of the cedar that will ultimately coarse through this once it's had a little bottle age, and the dark freshness of the cassis, blueberry and black cherry fruits. In a vintage in which things were challenging on the plateau of Pomerol this achieves a beguiling and very classical charm.
94-96/100 Colin Hay
Château Clinet 2025 adopts an approach that is particularly commendable within Pomerol. Faced with the intense heat of the vintage, it does not shy away, but instead places this warmth openly at the forefront. Rather than focusing on the scale of structure or the weight of tannins, it directs its attention to the expression of fruit. Cherry, mulberry, and black plum emerge with clean, lifted sweetness, while the palate is shaped to be as juicy and refreshing as possible. The 20% Cabernet Sauvignon draws out the acidity to its fullest extent. As a result, the inherent sense of weight in Pomerol 2025 is transformed into a more fluid and relaxed movement, touched by a gentle herbal coolness that brings a poised sense of comfort to the palate.
95-96/100 Alexandre Ma
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 Clinet starts off with pronounced notes of cedar and Chinese five spice, giving way to a core of preserved plums and baked black cherries, plus a waft of dried roses. The medium- to full-bodied palate is wearing a lot of oak right now with stewed black fruit flavors and a chewy texture, finishing with just enough freshness.
91-93/100 Lisa Perrotti-Brown
Concentrated and intense, dried figs, high spice, freshly cut herbs, incense, cardamon, dried rose petal, pot pourri, this has fragrance that builds thorugh the palate, plenty of tannic grip that just flirts with being dry. A concentrated Clinet with impact. 30 hl/ha. Tasted twice. Ronan Laborde owner.
