Keep Your Wine Cool

Our Summer Promise

Safe Wine Shipping During Extreme Heat

When outdoor temperatures rise above 30 °C, we temporarily pause the dispatch of your wines. This is not to delay your order unnecessarily, but to ensure that every bottle arrives in the same excellent condition in which it leaves our warehouse.

Wine is a delicate natural product. Extreme heat, direct sunlight and significant temperature fluctuations can negatively affect its flavour, freshness, structure and balance. During transport in particular, delivery vehicles, distribution centres and storage areas can become extremely warm.

That is why we carefully consider when to dispatch your order during the summer months. In periods of extreme heat, your wine remains safely stored with us in dark, temperature-stable conditions. We only ship your order once temperatures allow for safe and gentle transport.

This is how we protect the quality of your wine – from careful storage to its safe arrival at your doorstep.

Why Heat Is Harmful to Wine

Wine Is Sensitive to High Temperatures

Wine is a delicate natural product and is sensitive to heat. Excessive temperatures can accelerate the ageing process and compromise the quality of the wine. Its fine aromas, freshness, structure and balance may all be affected.

White wines, sparkling wines and ready-to-drink wines are particularly sensitive. Premium fine wines and mature vintages also require special protection from excessive heat during summer transport.

Temperature Fluctuations Place Additional Stress on Wine

Prolonged heat is not the only concern. Significant changes between warm and cool temperatures can also place stress on the wine and negatively affect its development.

This is precisely why responsible wine shipping during high outdoor temperatures requires particular care. Delivery vehicles, distribution centres and drop-off locations can become extremely warm. Even brief exposure to excessive heat can be far from ideal for sensitive wines.

Avoid Direct Sunlight and UV Exposure

Wine bottles should be protected from direct sunlight and strong light. During the summer, avoid leaving your wine on a windowsill, balcony or in a parked car.

Light and UV radiation can affect the wine’s aromas and flavour development. At the same time, temperatures inside closed vehicles can rise rapidly. This applies to red wines as well as white, rosé and sparkling wines.

Quality Does Not End with the Selection of the Wine

For us, premium fine-wine service goes beyond the careful selection of exceptional wines. Our range brings together wines from renowned wineries across a variety of countries and wine regions. Proper storage and responsible shipping are just as important to us as provenance, vintage and quality.

We do not wish to take unnecessary risks, particularly with mature bottles and wines with outstanding ratings. During periods of extreme heat, we therefore keep your order safely stored in dark, temperature-stable conditions at our warehouse.

We would rather delay shipping by a few days than expose the quality of your wines to extreme temperatures. This helps ensure that every bottle arrives in the best possible condition.

How to Store Wine Properly in Summer

Cool, Dark and at a Stable Temperature

The most important rule for storing wine in summer is to keep it as cool and dark as possible, away from significant temperature fluctuations. Ideal storage locations include a cellar, a wine climate cabinet or a cool, light-protected room with a stable temperature.

Whether you are storing Bordeaux wines, Burgundy wines or Champagne, a consistently cool environment protected from light helps preserve the wine’s aromas, freshness and structure.

Kitchens and living rooms are generally less suitable for long-term wine storage during summer. Heat, direct sunlight and changing room temperatures often come together in these areas – conditions that can affect the wine’s flavour, freshness and overall quality.

A standard refrigerator is best used for briefly chilling wine before serving. Due to its low temperature, dry air and possible vibrations, it is only partially suitable for longer-term storage.

Opened wine bottles should be carefully resealed after pouring and stored in a cool place. This helps preserve their freshness, aromas and flavour for longer.
