Elvio Cogno

Elvio Cogno was originally a partner and cellar master at Cogno-Macarini in La Morra. In 1990, he bought a property in Novello, in the Ravera district - the foundation stone for his own winery. In 1996, his son-in-law Valter Fissore took over the management of the estate together with his wife Nadia.
Today, around fifteen hectares are cultivated, mainly in the municipality of Novello in the MGA Ravera. A small quantity of Nebbiolo grapes comes from Neive for the Barbaresco Bordini. Grapes from ungrafted vines come from a suburb of La Morra for the Barbera Pre-Phylloxera. The Barolo Cascina Nuova currently still comes entirely from younger vines in the Ravera vineyard. However, as these are getting older and older, it will become a Barolo di Commune di Novello in the next few years, as grapes from other vineyards can then also be used. The Ravera vineyard will continue to produce the classic Ravera, the Bricco Pernice (100% Lampia clone) and the Reserva Vigna Elena (100% Rose clone).
No new wood is used in the vinification of Nebbiolo, as the aim is to emphasize the pure fruit and terroir. Since the 2017 vintage, some of the stalks have also been processed, partly in order to better balance the alcohol.
