Château Troplong Mondot
The roots of Château Troplong Mondot go back to the 18th century. Since then, there have been several changes of ownership until it was acquired by SCOR Insurance in 2017.
Almost 43 hectares are cultivated, divided into 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. The high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon for St. Emilion can be traced back to soil studies carried out by experts Claude and Lydia Bourguignon since 2007.
In 2017, Aymeric de Gironde was installed as vineyard manager. He also changed the consultant oenologist from Michel Rolland to Thomas Duclos. While Troplong Mondot was known for a while for very opulent and high-alcohol wines, the focus in recent years has been on more precision and finesse. The 2017 vintage is considered a turning point. The harvest date was brought forward slightly and yields were increased from around 35 to 45 hl/ha in order to better balance the usually enormous concentration. The grapes for the second wine, called “Mondot”, come from specially defined vineyards. Some of the vineyards are already cultivated organically and horses are also used to work the soil.
Today, Troplong Mondot is probably one of the most innovative châteaux in the entire Bordelais. If you are looking for structured wines with a great combination of finesse and power as well as a charming drinking flow, this is the right place for you!
