Chateau Montlandrie
Chateau Montlandrie is located in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, just a 20-minute drive from Saint Emilion. In 2009, Denis Durantou - known as the owner of L'Eglise Clinet - bought land in the heart of Castillon-la-Bataille, where the last battle of the 100-year war was fought in 1453.
After acquiring the land, he immediately began to replant the vines one by one. Only his own vines from L'Eglise Clinet were used. 12 of the 28 hectares are currently planted with vines. Around 70% of these are planted with Merlot, the remainder with Cabernet Franc and more and more Cabernet Sauvignon. The soils consist mainly of clay mixed with limestone and silex. Unfortunately, Denis passed away far too early in 2020 at the age of 62. Since then, his daughters Noëmie, Constance and Alix have been running the business.
Renowned wine critic Lisa Perrotti-Brown, MW recently published her reviews of a vertical tasting of this value-for-money gem. She opines:
“Every now and then, I taste a modestly priced wine from a newly established vineyard possessing a tingle of singular magic usually only found in well-known, illustrious, far pricier labels. Recent vintages of Château Montlandrie-from Bordeaux's emerging Castillon region-elicit that tingle.”
We have also been following the very positive development of Chateau Montlandrie for some time! We can currently offer the following vintages:
