The majority of American wines are produced in California. Classic varieties include Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay. The most famous wine-growing regions are Napa Valley, Sonoma Valley, Central Valley, and Central Coast. Although wine has been produced in California for over 200 years, its international success story is only around 50 years old.
