Wine from Alsace

The Alsace wine region is located in eastern France and stretches along a narrow strip along the border with Germany. The foothills of the Vosges mountains enjoy a mild climate with warm summers and mild winters. The mountains also provide protection from rain.
Due to the diverse terroir in Alsace, many different varieties are grown, primarily Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Muscat. They are mostly vinified as single varietals, which is actually atypical for France.
The narrow, tall bottles are characteristic.
