Wine from the Neusiedlersee region

One highlight from the Neusiedlersee region is Batonnage. Named after the stirring of yeast sediment during winemaking, it is created by five innovators from the local wine industry: Markus Altenburger, Florian Gayer, Gerhard Kracher, Erich Scheiblhofer, and Christian Tschida. Detached from the often highly conservative conventions of the wine world, they approach wine with a relaxed attitude.
The main component of Batonnage is Blaufränkisch grapes, which, like Cabernet Sauvignon, come from the mineral-rich, barren slopes of the Leitha Mountains in Jois. The third grape variety is fully ripe Merlot from the Andauer Prädium.
