2022 Testamatta IGT Toscana Rosso
Takes time to open up, a structured vintage of Testamatta, full of charm. Juicy, savoury, unfussy, white tea, sage, cranberry, red cherry, mandarin, delicious stuff from winemaker Bibi Graetz. Fermented and aged in a mix of 500l casks and 225l new oak barrels, natural yeasts, three punch downs per day, then into neutral oak barrels for 18 months before botting. Harvest September 15 to mid October.
95/100 Jane Anson
(Toscana IGT Rosso; 100% Sangiovese; 14% alcohol). Lifted, aromatically very floral, bright and enticing. Quite delicate and very much in keeping with its recent style. Very well made with a lovely sense of finesse and gracious fine-grained tannins. Dark berry fruits, red berry fruits too – very croquant and charged with a very natural fruit acidity bringing energy and dynamism to the mid-palate. Tender and lithe, gently rippling on the finish.
96/100 Colin Hay; The Drinks Business
Wild strawberries and raspberries star on the nose, while undertones of wild fennel and sweet chili pepper add nuance. More berries arrive on the palate, and although they’re sweet and juicy, they still have a bit of tartness. The finish of dark chocolate and orange peel is structured by sleek tannins and elevated by acid that slowly builds, then explodes. Folio Fine Wine Partners.
