2020 McDougall Ranch Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Vines planted in 1998 on greywacke and sandstone 3.5 miles from the Pacific. Aged in 11 (used) barrels. Picked by hand on 11 September. 50% whole-bunch. Spontaneous fermentation. Unfined and unfiltered.
Dark garnet – much darker than the Sonoma County 2020 bottling. Rich nose with a little severity on the finish. If the Sonoma County bottling is Côte de Beaune, this is Jamie Kutch's Côte de Nuits ... Lots going on here and it would be a shame to drink it too young. This one will run and run! Light tannins evident and some spice and real depth. Jamie Kutch's wines just get better and better. Exciting! (Jancis Robinson)
