2020 Dubreuil Blanc Chardonnay Vin de France
Founded by Benoit Trocard in 2002 and currently owned by Texan Ralph Eads, with Alain Raynaud consulting. Chardonnay planted on limestone on what would otherwise qualify as St-Emilion grand cru classé. Dijon clone, barrel-fermentation and -ageing position this as a real competitor to the Côte d'Or. Couldn't be much more different to traditional white Bordeaux. Pear and stone-fruit characters, subtle buttery oak. The limestone bedrock here certainly adds extra lift.
