2016 Pontet Canet
The 2016 Pontet-Canet is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it explodes from the glass with bombastic creme de cassis, stewed plums, and blueberry preserves notes, giving way to subtle notions of licorice, lilacs, and damp soil plus a waft of truffles. Full-bodied, it is super concentrated with a lovely line of freshness and ripe, firm, grainy tannins, finishing very long and with amazing purity.
99/100 Lisa Perrotti-Brown
A wine that always deliver high quality is Pontet-Canet. The 2016 is no exception offering a subtle, fresh and impressive nose of crunchy fruit, cedar, cigar-box and vibrant red berries. It is a classic Pauillac, an a finely structured and really impressive, juicy glass of wine – well composed with an impressive freshness at the end. Even though this wine is so lush and subtle already now you can feel the impressive skeleton of the wines backbone underneath and this should have a long life ahead.
97/100+ Ivar Bjurner; The Wine Independent
Brambled raspberry and black cherry, a burst of mint leaf and fennel, this has grip and richness through the mid palate, high rosemary and sage spice, combines muscular tannins with a creaminess that is very enticing - showing that even if high alcohol for Pauillac at 14.5, this takes it firmly in its stride. Seriously impressive. Jean-Michel Comme winemaker, as he was for 30 years until 2020.
