2016 Extra Cuvée 1522
A glimmering, faint rose gold color with pinpoint, persistent bubbles, the Cuveé 1522 Extra Brut 2016 is a Grand Cru selection of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay made mostly from the Philipponnat “Leon” parcel in Aÿ. Fermented largely in stainless steel with a small percentage vinified in oak barrels, none of the base wines underwent malolactic fermentation before aging eight years on fine lees. The nose is quite honeyed and redolent of summer berries, crisp red apple, wet chalk and toasted brioche that have an alluring precision. Taut and fresh at first, the medium to full-bodied palate has spirited, chalky acidity, abundant red bramble fruit concentration and mouthwatering salinity on the finish. Disgorged October 2022. 10574 Bottles produced.
