2014 Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens
(almost finished with its malo): Bright, deep red-ruby color. Reticent, very pure aromas of black raspberry, minerals and smoky underbrush; seems even riper than the Grand Clos des Epenots. Boasts terrific sweetness and cut to its black cherry and mint flavors. Finishes suave and long, with substantial late-arriving tannins. Still a touch of malic acidity here but this very fine-grained wine shows grand cru class. One of the most promising 2014 Côte de Beaune wines I sampled this fall.
