Plump, plush, punchy in its way with a gentle natural sweetness to the fruit that is very evident when the wine is placed in the context of this year’s Penfolds collection. But still essentially fresh. Complex. A little nutty. The wood still needs time to marry a little but is well on its way. There’s lots of midpalate density and substance and hence the absorbing capacity to deal with the higher percentage of new oak. Spicy but all in balance. Loads of classy graphite. Lots of aging potential. 96.
