2025 Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese
The 2025 Riesling Scharzhofberger Spätlese is made from around 30% botrytized fruit that had not yet shriveled. Slight reduction on the nose is already suffused with fruit. Ripe lemon comes with tropical overtones, perhaps of mango, but passion fruit appears, too. Beautiful and fluid sweetness on the palate reveals the botrytis while passion fruit appears again in that concentrated, gilded fruitiness that is nonetheless enticingly tart. Juiciness and absolutely mouthwatering freshness are totally fused, inseparable, delicious, pure. This just rocks. Wow.

The 2025 Scharzhofberger Spätlese is Egon Müller's one and only Spätlese from this vintage, and it is a brilliant one: generous and complex on the nose, with saline notes and serious mineral substance. This is a textural but light, fresh and highly refined, very elegant and light-footed Spätlese with a savory character and fine phenol grip on the finish. It is maybe not as substantial, intense and complex as the old-vines Kabinett but has lots of charm and finesse. Tasted as a sample at the domaine in March 2026.
