2017 Barolo Cascina Nuova
The 2017 Barolo Cascina Nuova from Elvio Cogno has a much deeper garnet/ruby color than the 2018 version of this wine and a nose full of ripe red cherry, spice, black pepper and fresh earth notes. On the palate it feels round, soft and quite full-textured but with a combination of contrasting flavors of ripe red fruits, tart cherry and green olive. There is a lively, mouthwatering acidity giving the wine a fresh finish and the tannins are gentle and quite savory. This wine comes from 12 year old vines in the south-facing Cascina Nuova vineyard in Ravera. It is aged for 24 months in large Slavonian oak 'botte' (large oak barrels).
