I am not sure whether it is the pH of 3.12 at work, or truly the winemaker’s magical touch, but this white blend of 45% Sauvignon Gris and 17% Sémillon shows remarkable freshness in the hot and dry 2025 vintage, with no sense of its 15% alcohol. The body is rounder than in previous years, carrying a clear sweetness, yet both aromatics and palate remain precise and well-defined. Juicy white peach, ripe mandarin, and a bright note of bergamot unfold layer by layer, giving the aromatic profile a vivid, three-dimensional presence. Most impressive is the finish: as a saline note of sea salt emerges, the mineral structure immediately drives the wine forward in successive waves. Such a performance completely reshapes my understanding of Château Valandraud Blanc in a hot vintage. Highly recommended.

Lime blossom and lime leaf, white peaches, so much depth here, a gentle unroll, keeps you waiting, delivering tension and graphite texture as it goes, opening to quince, papaya and lemongrass. Higher Sémillon than usual because of such a great year for this variety, aged in amphora, with no oak for the Sauvignon Gris, 70% new oak overall. 3.12 pH. Harvest September 4 to 9. Jean-Luc Thunevin's final full harvest to be overseeing the wine, as he has now sold the estate to Marie and Jean-Christophe Lefévère of Château Sansonnet.
