(Saint-Julien; 79% Cabernet Sauvignon; 21% Merlot; a final yield of 22 hl/ha; 13.5% alcohol; tasted at the property). Brilliant. Old school. Big, bold, punchy. Black cherry, mulberry, bramble and black berry - and, with aeration, a little cassis and blueberry too. Mimosa, violet, iris and peony. This is as floral a vintage as I can remember here. If La Croix is cashmere, this is velvet! Ducru is composed of broad layers beautifully delineated by the pixilating tannins. Fleshy and long, with lots of liquorice on the finish. This is very lifted for a wine so dense and compact. Indeed, it's gravity-defying. A lovely expression of this terroir, very authentic and true to the signature of Ducru over the years but with greater finesse I find. The last vintage to be made in the old cellar.

In a year where concentration and intensity reach their peak, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 2025 chooses to hold back. It does not rush to display its power, instead allowing blackcurrant, preserved plum candy, and blueberry juice to spread gradually across the palate, gently bringing forward its supple, tender texture. The tannins are no less abundant than in 2022, yet so finely refined that they dissolve almost instantly upon contact, like milk powder. With a brief pause, aromas of violet and iris begin to rise, gentle and poised, as if someone were softly lifting your face. Precise and pure, the wine reveals, without any display, the truest lineage and character of Médoc Cabernet Sauvignon.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 Ducru-Beaucaillou shimmies out with vibrant notes of freshly crushed black currants and blueberries, opening out to sparkles of violets, licorice, crushed rocks, and cardamom, with a waft of iron ore. The medium-bodied palate is fantastically elegant with firm yet exquisitely ripe, fine-grained tannins and amazing tension to match the delicately nuanced black fruit layers, finishing with epic length and an incredible firework display of minerals and flowers. The blend is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Merlot. It has a pH of 3.74 and the alcohol is 13.44%. The TPI is 97!

Stunning, nuanced, and just full of joy. Reserved flesh, toasted cumin, fresh blueberries and raspberries with rich seams of cassis, fresh pomegranate, and cappuccino, this is very Ducru in its width and breadth, but with a freshness and lift that is very much of the 2025 vintage. Almost certainly this will close down for a number of years, but all is well controlled, with quiet confidence. A wine you will be happy to spend a lot of time with. 3.74 pH. Harvest September 2 to 23, 100% new oak. Bruno Borie owner.
