The expression of the 2025 vintage moves like a dragon gliding into water, leaving no trace behind. Within this silky texture, Château Branaire-Ducru conceals a quiet, unspoken strength. Tannins reminiscent of cocoa powder settle deep beneath the surface, like an undercurrent in the sea, rising only when the structure calls for it, gently steadying the core before retreating once more, allowing violet, blackcurrant, and blueberry to lead the floral and fruit expression. The lifted acidity moves above like a guiding spirit, while that familiar saline touch threads through the mid-palate. Each element moves with natural ease, flowing from one to another. You simply follow its rhythm forward, and wherever it leads, there is a sense of calm and composure. The wine maintains an inward, precise balance throughout. This subtle, unspoken expression is precisely where its greatest charm lies.
94-96/100 Alexandre Ma
(Saint-Julien; 62% Cabernet Sauvignon; 26% Merlot; 6% Petit Verdot; 6% Cabernet Franc; a final yield of 33 hl/ha; 13% alcohol; tasted at the UGCB press tasting at the Cité du Vin). Charming, if a little closed aromatically, with a hint of hazelnut and assorted red and darker berry fruits the first to show. There's a hint of iris too. On the palate this is caressing, soft and silky and it unfurls reassuringly slowly. The fruit has a gentle natural sweetness to it. This is an undemonstrative but beautifully balanced wine. Stylish and quite sleek in this vintage.
93-95/100 Colin Hay
Intense, knitted down with grilled cumin and cloves, sappy dark fruits, appellation typicity, an enjoyable enjoyable Brainaire. Yield 33 hl/ha. 60% new oak, François Xavier Maroteaux owner.
93/100 Jane Anson
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 Branaire-Ducru is a little closed at first, needing some shaking to get beyond the cedar and sassafras notes to a core of black cherries and juicy black currants, followed by hints of licorice and tar. The medium-bodied palate delivers a chewy texture and refreshing acidity with plenty of spicy black fruit flavors, finishing a little woody.
