(Saint-Estèphe; 62% Cabernet Sauvignon; 36% Merlot; 2% Cabernet Franc; a final yield of 32 hl/ha; pH 3.60; 13.8% alcohol; tasted at Calon Ségur). Sporting it's rather refined new label from the 2024 vintage. Hyper-saline, quite gamey, rich and punchy, but with a lot more mid-palate clarity and cystallinity than before, this is radiant in its purity, fresh and very authentic to its terroir, above all on the juicy palate.
91-93/100 Colin Hay
Unlike the usual “sweetness” of previous vintages, the 2025 expression carries an added sense of strength. The concentrated body and firm tannins bring a resilient edge to that sweetness, while also building a solid framework within the wine’s supple texture. Normally, such a profile might seem at odds with the estate’s signature softness, yet thanks to the exceptionally fine tannin grain, Château Capbern’s classic character remains entirely intact, even gaining greater aging potential. A truly compelling result.
92-94/100 Alexandre Ma
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 Capbern pops from the glass with notes of fresh blackberries, cassis, and red currants, plus hints of pencil lead and lavender. The medium-bodied palate is elegantly crafted with black fruit layers and mineral accents, framed by firm, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing earthy. The blend is 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. It has a pH of 3.6 and the alcohol is 13.8%. The wine is aging for 18 months in French barriques, 60% new.
92-94/100 Lisa Perrotti-Brown
Beautiful tension and concentration, delivers energy and balance, cassis, bilberry, orange peel, showing the gravel clay limestone terroir, lovely fresh lift, well balanced with finesse. A real drinkability is apparent, helped by wine making choices such as low temperature fermentation, low extraction, low amounts of press wine. Harvest September 4 to 20. New label from 2024 vintage, has the Calon heart and makes explicit the link that the two estates were owned by same family since the 19th century. Vincent Millet director. 60% new oak. 3.60 pH. Yield 32 hl/ha.
