(Saint-Estèphe; 80% Cabernet Sauvignon; 17% Merlot; 1% Petit Verdot; 2% Cabernet Franc; a final yield of 35 hl/ha; pH 3.60; 13.6% alcohol; tasted at the property). This is more floral than the other wines in the portfolio. It shines, with crunchy purple, blue and black fruits, both berry and stone. It's plump, plush, lifted and aerial. And it's glorious, again, in the mouth with lots of forward momentum over the palate and a crispness and crystallinity that is rare here in recent vintages. There's a seriousness that is at first easy to miss due to its accessibility. But there is a depth and profundity to the mid-palate that marks this out as one of the most ageworthy wines of the vintage even up here in St-Estèphe where things are built to last. More of an obvious vin de garde than many. Very classical and true to its style, yet with even with more finesse and elegance.

I have always tended to favor Château Calon Ségur in more temperate vintages, where its finesse and gentle character often feel more compelling than in hot, dry years. Yet 2025 has quietly reshaped that belief. It is almost hard to imagine that a wine known for its precocious nature can balance 13.6% alcohol with a pH of 3.60 so effortlessly. It feels like a peony born within flame, vivid and fragile at once, where even through the heat, you can still see dewdrops clinging to its petals. There is a tenderness here that stirs a natural sense of care, while its signature sweet freshness draws you inward time and again. It is a wine made to be shared with someone you love, expressing deep affection and devotion in the most understated way.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2025 Calon Ségur shimmies out with seductive notes of iris, fresh blueberries, and black currant jelly, giving way to hints of underbrush, crushed rocks, and mossy tree bark. The full-bodied palate shimmers with wonderful tension and bright blue and black fruit flavors, supported by firm, grainy tannins, finishing long and minerally. The blend is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. It has a pH of 3.6 and the alcohol is 13.6%. The wine is aging for 20 months in French barriques, 100% new.
95-97/100 Lisa Perrotti-Brown
The most firmly constructed wine of the Calon stable of course, but it still delivers the combination of finesse and concentration that is typical of the best wines in 2025. Much more graphite and slate on the texture of this main wine, this is one of the wines that really showcases the highest potential of the vintage, and it is an exceptional Calon. So layered, iris bud, cassis, crushed violet flowers, espresso and cocoa bean. A slow unroll. 100% new oak. 3.6 pH. Yield 35 hl/ha, Harvest September 4 to 20.
