Medium plus ruby in colour, they have definitely gone long on extraction, pushing the tannic frame so that there are spicy notes, leafy cassis bud and tight bilberry, good quality, and an estate that I always recommend, taking their foot off the pedal might have kept the emphasis more squarely of fruit. 35% new oak. Harvest 23 September to 3 October.
90/100 Jane Anson
(Pomerol; 90% Merlot; 10% Cabernet Franc; 13% alcohol; tasted at JP Moueix in Libourne). Peony and a hint of violet, blueberry and mulberry with a little black cherry. This is quite ample and pretty extracted in the context of the vintage. But, as a consequence perhaps it comes across as both a little blitzed and blended in its fruit profile and there is a something of a dip in the mid-palate suggesting the fruit has been stretched over too ample a frame. The tannins are soft and gracious and there is much to like here with no dryness or astringency, but this is not at the level of recent vintages.
89-91/100 Colin Hay; The Drinks Business
Deep garnet-purple colored. Skips from the glass with exuberant notes of red currant jelly and raspberry preserves, plus nuances of rose bud tea, underbrush, and pencil lead. The light to medium-bodied palate delivers vivacious red berry flavors with a lively line and soft tannins, finishing fragrant.
