Deep ruby cherry colour, this opens with bright plum and blackberry fruits, laced with cloves, white pepper, apple blossom. St Julien signature but the acidity accentuates the tannic grip at this point. Grands Millésimes De France, 41hl/ha yield.
92/100 Jane Anson
(St Julien; 55% Cabernet Sauvignon; 42% Merlot; 3% Petit Verdot; a final yield of 41 hl/ha; 13.5% alcohol; tasted twice, the first time at the UGC press tasting at the Cité du Vin). The most floral of the classed growths of St Julien and very pretty aromatically once again. We could almost still be in Margaux, but for the distinct walnut and blanched almond notes. There’s a creamy richness to this that is impressive too. The fruit – red berries, a little red cherry, some black cherries too – is picture-perfectly pure and precise and there’s a generosity to the mid-palate that sets this above most of its peers. Shimmering in its succulence on the juicy finish.
92-94/100 Colin Hay; The Drinks Business
Deep garnet-purple colored. Black cherries, fresh red currants and mulberries scents slowly emerge from the glass, plus hints of wild sage and pencil lead. The light to medium-bodied palate delivers red berry and savory flavors with great tension and lightly chewy tannins, finishing with a skip in its step.
