2024 Ausone
Auslieferung bis zum Herbst 2027!
Delivery until Fall 2027!
Deep ruby in colour, this delivers texture and flavoursome sappy fruits, clear winemaking skill that maintains estate signature. You feel the tightrope walk of minerality and fruit, and as in 2021 Ausone is at the very top of what was possible in the vintage. Cassis bud, peony, violet, cloves, jasmine flowers, chamomile, subtle complexity and layers that expand and build through the palate. The successful construction of this wine highlights what was so challeging to fully achieve with so many others in the vintage. Harvest 30 September 5 October, Philippe Baillarguet cellar master. 100% new oak.
96/100 Jane Anson
(Saint-Émilion; 65% Cabernet Franc; 35% Merlot; tasted at Ausone with Constance and Camille Vauthier). Spiritual. Much more expressive than La Chapelle with the Merlot setting the frame for the gloriously radiant Cabernet Franc to express itself. Damsons, damson skin, blueberries, brambles and a little mulberry. Graphite and a suggestion of gentle sweet spice from the oak. That very Ausone roasted walnut note too. Peony and a hint of wisteria. Maybe a rose petal or two. This has a gracious natural sweetness, the fruit just al dente. More red berries than usual here, a little less cherry. The grip of the tannins pinches and releases the sapidity gently sculpting and constructing the architecture of the wine. Intensely sapid in the mid-palate. Gracious, elegant with great finesse and fabuloulys chewy crumbly limestone tannins on the finish.
94-96/100+ Colin Hay; The Drinks Business
Deep garnet-purple colored. Soars out of the glass with fragrant notes of black cherries, black raspberries, violets, and sassafras, with touches of forest floor and fragrant soils. The medium-bodied palate is wonderfully silky with seamless freshness supporting the delicate red berry and floral layers, finishing long and perfumed. Stunning.
