2018 La Gaffeliere
La Gaffeliere 2018 is deep garnet purple in color. The nose begins with notes of new leather, cedar chest, and smoked meats, giving way to notions of prunes and fruit cake, with a waft of dried sage. The medium to full-bodied palate has a firm, yet velvety, texture with soft acidity and an opulent finish.
96/100 Lisa Perrotti-Brown
Creamy blackberry, mulberry, kirsch, cocoa bean, concentrated raspberry and black cherry fruits. There are spices running through the palate, and this is exuberant, with a touch of heat but the backbone of fresh acidities remains in play. An enjoyable wine that should be ready in the next year or two to begin drinking. At this point there was a move towards innovation, with defining choices being made around barrels, corks, extraction times, vineyard plantings and more. Ageing was just 12 months, reflecting the attention to detail of the winemaking team. Franck Darricau winemaker, Stéphane Derenoncourt consultant, Alexandre de Malet Roquefort owner.
