2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Bright, dark red. Aromas of black cherry, minerals and menthol hint at a liqueur-like ripeness. Fat and plush on entry, then minerally in the middle, showing a good bit of smoky oak. The oak tannins give the finish a stricter quality than the village wine, but the persistent fruit spreads out impressively to coat the palate. Bertrand Dugat cut the percentage of new oak for this wine from 100% to 50% beginning in 2014, and this vintage might also have benefited from a bit less lumber.
