Helmut Dönnhoff, Deutschland
Juicy fresh apple and white peach close to their cores make for a tangy, saline, piquantly seed- and pit-inflected impression underlain by wet stone. While not enormously complex, this epitomizes the clarity and animation that accrue to nearly all of the best vintage 2016 German Rieslings, and thanks to alcohol well below 12% there is a delightful sense of lift to the lingering finish. This bottling s sheer charm contrasts notably with the stern albeit energetic demeanor of the corresponding Tonschiefer bottling.
