Set for release later this year, this effectively represents the last “R” on which Sona and Philippi collaborated. The nose will be familiar to anyone who has followed this estate, mingling penetratingly high-toned sour mash and mothball with alkaline and mossy nuances. Satiny in feel and expansive yet simultaneously brightly juicy, the palate displays a strikingly Chablis-like sensation of herbed, salted meat stock and rarefied apple cider with a squeeze of lemon and alkaline, chalky undertones. This finishes with shimmering interaction of mineral, herbal and fruity elements not to mention prodigious sheer length. “I ca not understand why 2012 is not widely recognized by very many people as a terrific vintage,” remarked Sona with complete justification.
